The UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure has stated that the UAE will collaborate with COP28 participants to triple the world's renewable energy production capacity and double hydrogen production by 2030. The global energy transformation is at the forefront and center of the United Arab Emirates, which will help to focus on promoting the improvement of global clean energy production capacity, Suhail Al Mazrouei said at the International Solar Alliance meeting held in Abu Dhabi.

This month, the cabinet approved an updated version of the UAE's 2050 energy strategy and the development of a national hydrogen strategy. According to the latest goals of the UAE's 2050 energy strategy, the country will invest $54 billion by 2030 to ensure that it meets energy demand while maintaining economic growth. Mr. Al Mazrouei said that the new strategy will put the United Arab Emirates at the forefront of global energy transformation and help the country reduce carbon emissions by 40% by the end of this decade.

The United Arab Emirates is developing new clean energy projects, such as Baraka Nuclear Power Station, the two Jiwa Solar power station in Al Dhafra area of Abu Dhabi and the five Jiwa Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai. We recognize that the only wise and practical way to reduce emissions is to build tomorrow's energy system, "Majid Al Suwaidi, Director General of the United Arab Emirates and Special Representative of the COP28 rotating presidency, said in a speech at the ISA meeting.

Therefore, the clear answer must be urgent and significant investment in clean energy, which is what we are striving to achieve, "Mr. Al Suwaidi said. According to the data of the International Renewable Energy Agency, by 2030, the annual renewable energy capacity must be increased by an average of 1000 GW per year to achieve the goal of the Paris Agreement.

Although the renewable energy capacity of the global power industry increased by a record 300 GW last year, the gap between the actual progress and the development needed to achieve the long-term climate goals continues to widen, the agency said in the World Energy Transformation Vision 2023 last month.

We call for doubling renewable energy, doubling energy efficiency, and significantly expanding clean hydrogen by 2030. We call on oil and gas, as well as industry partners, to help us decarbonize our existing business, "said Mr. Al Suwaidi. We hope that our partners can help us eliminate red tape and prohibitive policies to ease investment and make the global South a major destination for foreign investors.

Irena said in March that by 2030, the global investment in energy transition technology must quadruple to 35 trillion dollars to be consistent with the commitments under the Paris Agreement.Editor/XingWentao
