On July 28, 2023, a reporter from Jiandao Network learned from the news released by Sichuan Shudao Expressway Group Co., Ltd. that the construction of the Xichang Ningnan Expressway project in Sichuan is fully underway. It is understood that this expressway is an important passage that goes deep into the Sichuan Yunnan region. The project has a construction period of 5 years and is planned to be completed and opened to traffic by 2027.

Project Introduction

It is reported that the route of Xichang Ningnan Expressway Project starts from Daxing Township, Xichang, connects to the planned Xichang branch line of G7611 Xichang Shangri La Expressway, passes through Hainan Street, Xichang, Wudaoqing Town, Luojishan, Qiaowo Town, Puji Town, Huashan Town, Daping Township, Songxin Town and Xingfu Town of Ningnan County, ends at Ningyuan Town, Ningnan County, and connects to the Ningnan Panzhihua section of G4216 Yibin Panzhihua Expressway under construction.

The total length of the project route is 105.805 kilometers, and the approved preliminary design estimate for the project is 23.98 billion yuan. The whole line of the project adopts the standard design of two-way four lane expressway, of which the starting point is about 59.14km from Puge County, the design speed is 80km/h, and the subgrade width is 25.5m; Puge County is about 46.665km from the destination, with a design speed of 100km/h and a subgrade width of 26m.

Asphalt concrete is used for the whole line. The designed vehicle load of bridges and culverts is Class I highway. The standard of first-class highway is used for the Xichang East interchange connecting line, and the standard of second-class highway is used for other interchange connecting lines. There are 7 ramp toll stations along the entire line, including Xichang East, Wudaoqing, Luojishan, Qiaowo, Puge, Songxin, and Ningnanbei. There are also 2 service areas, Luojishan and Ningnanbei. After the completion of this project, the travel time from Xichang to Ningnan will be reduced from 2 and a half hours to 1 hour, and a comprehensive transportation hub system will be formed that integrates with the five expressways along the Yangtze River, Xixiang, Zhaopu, Jinxi, and Xizhao.
