Recently, President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Vice-President of Zimbabwe attended the power generation ceremony of Power China Hwange Thermal Power Station expansion project units 7 and 8. The Vice President Konstantino Chivinga of Zimbabwe and relevant government officials, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding and Counselor Huang Minghai, and Deputy Chief Economist Ji Xiaoyong of Power China attended the ceremony. Nearly 10000 local people attended the ceremony.

Mnangaguwa first inspected the power plant site. He stated that the Wangi Power Station expansion project is one of the large-scale iconic infrastructure projects implemented in Zimbabwe in recent years, which has had a positive impact on the local community and the development of the entire country. The production of two units in this project has successfully solved Zimbabwe's power shortage problem, marking significant achievements in large-scale infrastructure construction. The President highly appreciates the successful implementation of the Wangji project and expresses sincere gratitude to the engineers from both China and Tianjin who participated in it.

Ambassador Zhou Ding said that the Wangji power station expansion project is a flagship project supported by preferential loans provided by the Chinese government under the the Belt and Road framework, the largest infrastructure project since Tianjin's independence, and another monument to the traditional friendship between China and Tianjin. This iconic project not only provides reliable electricity supply for Tianjin, but also injects new impetus into its social and economic development.

Ji Xiaoyong expressed gratitude to the Zimbabwean government, project owners, Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, project participants, local communities, and the public on behalf of China Power China. He stated that Power China will continue to actively participate in Zimbabwe's infrastructure construction, contribute Chinese strength to Zimbabwe's economic and social development, and also actively fulfill corporate social responsibility to support the development of local communities.

Wangji Power Station Expansion Project is the "No.1 Project" of Zimbabwe jointly witnessed and signed by the leaders of China and Zimbabwe. It is also a key project of Power China under the the Belt and Road Initiative in the integrated mode of investment, construction and operation. The project is regarded as the key cornerstone to realize Zimbabwe's vision of 2030. The annual power generation of the two new units will exceed 4 billion kilowatt hours, and their full operation has increased the installed capacity of the Wangi Power Station from the current 920 megawatts to 1590 megawatts. This huge growth has made Zimbabwe's electricity supply more stable and reliable, effectively promoting the development of the local economy. This project not only demonstrates the close cooperation between the governments of China and Tianjin, setting a model for their cooperation in the energy field, but also highlights Power China's outstanding technological strength and persistent pursuit in sustainable energy development and infrastructure construction.Editor/Ma Xue
