On August 4, 2023, a joint venture led by China Civil Engineering Corporation, Nanguang Real Estate, and China Railway 16th Bureau signed a design and construction project for the northern section of the Macau Light Rail East Line, marking the imminent commencement of the project.

The Macau Light Rail East Line is a key node line for the Macau SAR government to strengthen and enrich the existing public transportation system in Macau, and is also one of the key livelihood projects that contribute to the high-quality and sustainable development of the Macau SAR. Among them, the northern section of the eastern light rail line has a total length of 2.74 kilometers, including three stations and three intervals, all underground, and the interval is a double hole single line shield tunnel. The project starts from ES1 station in the mudflat area at the southeast corner of Guanzha Port in the north and ends at ES4 station in the artificial island of Xincheng District A in the south. After the completion of the project, it is of great significance to alleviate the pressure of customs clearance passenger flow at the gate port and facilitate the travel of residents and tourists.
