The Egyptian National Railway Company has announced a plan to modernize the 125 kilometer railway corridor along the east bank of the Nile River between Cairo, Giza, and Benisov cities.
This work will involve upgrading signals, tracks, and stations, and will be carried out by French engineer Thales and Egyptian contractor Orascom within five years. After completion, the two will maintain contact for another five years.
A portion of the 340 million euros cost of the plan will be provided by the World Bank as part of its Egyptian railway improvement and safety project.
Alessio Bencivenni, Managing Director of Thales Egypt Ground Transportation System, stated that by introducing the most advanced signaling system, we are committed to improving the travel experience of Egyptian passengers.
Through innovation and cooperation, we strive to optimize punctuality, improve profitability, and enhance the capacity of the railway network, promoting domestic economic growth and connectivity.Editor/XingWentao
