On September 3, 2023, Kazakh Prime Minister Arikhan Smaylov chaired a government meeting to study and deploy measures for further development of the manufacturing industry. According to local officials, as of the end of August this year, manufacturing investment in Akmora Oblast has decreased by 70%, while manufacturing production in Aktobe and Ultau Oblast has decreased by 18%. After listening to reports from the governors of three states, Ali Khan Smaylov emphasized that the head of state has made it clear that establishing a strong industrial system is one of the top priorities for national construction.
Smaylov pointed out that manufacturing plays a crucial role in the economic structure of any country. Within the framework of the industrialized map country project, 170 projects are planned to be implemented this year, involving industrial sectors such as food, construction, machinery manufacturing, and metallurgy. It is expected that these projects will create 12500 fixed employment positions. In order to implement the important instructions of the head of state, the government is drafting a comprehensive plan for the development of the machinery manufacturing industry. If this plan can be successfully implemented, it is expected to result in a production growth of more than twice, an export growth of nearly three times, and a fixed capital investment growth of more than 1.5 times in the field.
In addition, Smaylov also stated that the update of the light industry development roadmap will be completed this year. Overall, the main direction and tasks for the development of the manufacturing industry have been clarified, and the government must increase its efforts to ensure its active implementation.
On the same day, at the government meeting, Hanat Sharrapayev, Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan, reported on the latest development status of the manufacturing industry. He emphasized that by the end of 2022, the proportion of manufacturing in the national gross domestic product had reached 13.4%, making it the third largest economic contributor after trade and mining. Last year, the output value of the domestic manufacturing industry reached 21.1 trillion tenge, which is 2.2 times that of five years ago. In addition, Hanat Sharrapayev also pointed out that in the first eight months of this year, the production scale of the manufacturing industry had reached 14 trillion tenge, an increase of 3.1% year-on-year.
