On October 16, 2023, the mobilization meeting for the construction of the Ziyunshan Pumped Storage Power Station in Hubei Province was held in Huangmei County, marking the official commencement of the project.

The Hubei Ziyunshan Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Wuzu Town and Kuzhu Township, Huangmei County, Huanggang City, Hubei Province. The total installed capacity of the station reaches 1400MW, consisting of four 350MW units, with a designed full capacity of 6 hours and an annual designed power generation capacity of 1.56 billion kWh. After the completion of the power station, it mainly undertakes tasks such as peak shaving, valley filling, energy storage, frequency regulation, phase modulation, and emergency backup for the power system in Hubei Province.

The project is jointly constructed by the Fourth Engineering Company of China Railway 11th Bureau as the leader of the consortium, and with China Construction Third Bureau Water Resources and Hydropower Development Co., Ltd. The construction content includes multiple underground chambers and other facilities such as permanent roads on site, soil and water conservation engineering, wastewater treatment facilities, safety monitoring, construction auxiliary engineering, etc.

Hubei Ziyunshan Pumped Storage Power Station is a key project in China's mid to long-term development plan for pumped storage during the 14th Five Year Plan period. This project not only plays an important role in serving the national dual carbon goals, but also improves the safety, reliability, and economic operation of the power system, assists in clean energy production and consumption, and promotes the development of green and low-carbon energy transformation. Its completion will provide strong guarantees for the power system of Hubei Province and have a profound impact on local and national energy development.  Editor/Yang Yang
