China and Nicaragua signed the Tumarín and Mojolka hydropower projects to boost hydropower development in the Latin American country. Nicaraguan Vice President Rosario Murillo said that Nicaraguan representatives in China are holding talks with Chinese companies to finalize at least eight large-scale agreements and confirm the signing of Tumarín and Mojolka hydropower projects Project Memorandum of Understanding with Chinese state-owned enterprise Huadian Overseas Investment Co., Ltd.
"A memorandum of understanding has been signed with China Huadian Overseas Investment Company, one of the largest and oldest companies in China's overseas design, financing and construction," Murillo said.
Nicaragua Hydropower Potential
In 2020, Nicaragua's total installed electricity capacity was 1,619 MW, of which hydropower accounted for 9.72% of the total installed capacity. The government plans to add 400 MW of hydropower generation.
Nicaraguan electricity is currently produced from: 54.84% fossil fuels, 13.47% biofuels, 11.50% wind, 9.72% hydro, 9.46% geothermal, 1.01% solar. Nicaragua’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) estimates that 58% of the country’s energy is currently produced from renewable sources. Editor/Zhao E
