On October 29, 2023, the opening ceremony of the A1 section of Xiamen Third East Passage was held in Guanyinshan, Siming District. The opening of the A1 section marked the beginning of the construction phase of Xiamen Third East Passage.

The Xiamen Third East Passage project starts at the intersection of Huandao East Road and Huizhan North Road, crossing the eastern sea area in the form of a bridge from Guanyin Mountain to the east. The terminal is connected to Xiang'an Airport and the Xiang'an branch line is constructed simultaneously. The total length of the cross sea bridge route is 19.64 kilometers, and the main line is 17.36 kilometers, while the Xiang'an branch line is 2.28 kilometers.

The project adopts the standard construction of highways, and the main line of the cross sea section is a two-way eight lane road with a design speed of 100 kilometers/hour. The land connection and Xiang'an branch line are bidirectional six lane, with a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

The A1 section under construction is located on the island side of the Third East Passage in Xiamen, with a total length of 3978 meters. The construction content mainly includes the beach bridge, the island side connecting bridge, the non navigable bridge on the west side of the Liuwudian waterway bridge, and the Liuwudian waterway bridge.

The A1 section is the most complex and highly focused section of the entire project in terms of technical difficulty. Among them, the Liuwudian Waterway Bridge is a 1948 meter five span continuous composite bridge tower plane cable suspension bridge, with a tower height of 178 meters and a main span length of 928 meters. It is the largest span bridge in Fujian Province and also the first offshore mid sea suspension bridge in Fujian Province.

In addition to the A1 section, other sections of the project are also actively promoting the construction of the entire line by the end of 2023

The main bridge of the project aims to be built and put into use simultaneously with Xiang'an Airport.

After the completion of this project, it will become the most convenient channel for Xiamen Island to connect with Xiang'an Airport, effectively alleviating the traffic pressure on the Xiang'an Island Entry and Exit Channel and the new airport area, and greatly improving the traffic efficiency from Xiamen Island to Xiang'an Airport.
