On the morning of December 24, 2023, the southern extension project of Shanghai Metro Line 15 officially began construction at Dongfang Meigu Avenue Station. Yu Fulin, Director of the Municipal Transportation Commission, Yuan Quan, Secretary of the District Committee, Bi Xiangli, Chairman of Shanghai Shentong Metro Group Co., Ltd., Wang Yiqun, Deputy Secretary and Mayor of the District Committee, Zhang Peirong, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the District People's Congress, Chen Yongzhang, Chairman of the District Political Consultative Conference, Cai Youming, President of the Municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Liu Qianwei, Chief Engineer of the Municipal Housing and Urban Rural Construction Management Committee, Yu Ning, Vice President of Shanghai Shentong Metro Group Co., Ltd., and Zhang Minshuan, General Manager of China Railway Third Bureau Group Co., Ltd., jointly contributed to the official start of the South Extension Project of Shanghai Metro Line 15. It is understood that the southern extension project of Shanghai Metro Line 15 passes through Fengxian District and Minhang District. The line starts from Wangyuan Road Station on Line 5 in Fengxian District in the south and ends at the Zizhu High tech Zone Station on Line 15, which is already in operation. Four stations including Ziguang Road Station, Huancheng North Road Station, Dongfang Meigu Avenue Station, and Wangyuan Road Station, as well as one reserved station on Xizha Road, will be set up. Wangyuan Road Station will transfer to Line 5, with a total length of 10.26 kilometers and will be laid underground.

After its completion and opening in the future, the southern extension of Line 15 will serve functional areas such as the Oriental Meigu Industrial Park, the core area of Fengxian New City, and the Zizhu High tech Zone. It will build a fast connection channel between Fengxian New City and the main urban area, improve the level and scope of Fengxian New City's rail transit services, guide and support the development of TOD along the new city line, strengthen the comprehensive node city function of Fengxian New City South Shanghai, assist in the comprehensive promotion of the development and construction of the five new cities, and achieve the mission of building the "five centers". This is of great significance.

At present, there are a total of 11 under construction projects in Shanghai Metro, including Chongming Line, West Extension of Line 2, West Extension of Line 12, West Extension of Line 13, West Extension of Line 17, Phase II of Line 18, West Section of Phase I of Line 20, Phase I of Line 21, Phase I of Line 23, East Extension of Line 13, and South Extension of Line 15, which started on December 24th.

The commencement of the South Extension Project of Line 15 of the Municipal Rail Transit marks Fengxian's entry into the era of dual tracks and a leap forward in urban development.
