On January 8, 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Jinan Aerospace Avenue Yellow River Tunnel Project (Phase I), which was invested and constructed by Jinan Urban Construction Group with the participation of China Railway 14th Bureau, was held in Jinan. This is the third large-diameter shield tunnel passing through the Yellow River that has started construction in Jinan.

Li Guoxiang, Deputy Mayor of Jinan City, announced the start of construction. Wang Qing, Deputy Director of the Municipal Government Office, key officials from the Municipal State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, as well as officials from the Municipal Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, Municipal Transportation Bureau, Municipal Administrative Approval Service Bureau, Jinan New and Old Energy Conversion Start Zone Management Committee, Jinan High tech Zone Management Committee, and relevant participating units attended the start of construction ceremony.

The Aerospace Avenue Yellow River Tunnel Project (Phase I) is located in the Jinan High tech Zone and the starting area for the conversion of old and new kinetic energy. It is an important channel connecting Yaoqiang International Airport and the starting area. The tunnel starts from the intersection of Aerospace Avenue and X012 County Road in the east and ends on the northwest side outside Madian Village. It has a total length of 3888 meters and is a standard urban main road. It is designed to travel at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour, with dual pipes and six lanes in both directions. The shield tunnel section is 3245 meters long, and the outer diameter of the shield tunnel segment is 14.5 meters.

Among them, the normal water level of the Yellow River in the tunnel site section is 4 to 5 meters higher than the urban surface, and the shield tunnel bears a maximum water pressure of 0.65 megapascals, which poses high construction risks and difficulties. It is understood that the project team will use mud water balance and micro disturbance shield tunneling technology to cross the Yellow River embankment. At the same time, to improve the efficiency of shield tunneling, the shield tail synchronous double liquid grouting technology will be adopted to ensure the safe and orderly progress of the project.

After the completion of the project, Jinan Yaoqiang Airport will provide direct access to the starting area for the transformation of old and new kinetic energy in Jinan. This will further improve the urban road network system on both sides of the Yellow River, implement the ecological protection and high-quality development strategy of the Yellow River Basin, and provide strong transportation support for Jinan to accelerate towards the "Yellow River era".
