Yantai Cross-sea Passage

The Bohai Bay Cross-Sea Passage, or "Yantai Cross-Sea Passage", is an important part of China's coastal transportation development plan, spanning the Bohai Sea and connecting Yantai in Shandong and Dalian in Liaoning. The Bohai Bay Cross Sea Passage was first proposed in 1992. As of February 2019, the Bohai Bay Cross-Sea Passage has been included in the "Outline for Cooperation and Development of the Bohai Rim Region", Shandong Province's "Thirteenth Five-Year" Development Plan, and "Shandong Province Comprehensive Transportation Network Medium and Long-Term Development Plan (2018-2035)", etc. National and local documents.

The completion of the Bohai Bay Cross-sea Channel will greatly improve the convenience of transportation. Now, taking the high-speed train from Shandong to the northeast, it takes about 10 hours to transfer via Tianjin, while the flight between Yantai and Dalian takes only 45 minutes, but the traffic is too small. According to Sun Jun ’s analysis, if the Bohai Bay Cross-Sea Passage is completed, its total length is about 125km. Based on the train speed of 180 to 200km / h, the journey only takes about 1 hour.

Bridge or tunnel

At the "Bohai Bay Channel Development and Construction Forum" in 2018, Du Yanliang, a professor at Shijiazhuang Railway University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, gave a report on "Historical Opportunities and Construction Considerations of the Bohai Strait Cross-Sea Channel". Du Yanliang said that the construction of the Bohai Strait channel faces many challenges. One is the complicated natural conditions, the second is the harsh geological environment, and the third is the fragile ecological environment.

These are the three major technical problems that are bound to face. The channel should pass through submarine valleys, weathered deep troughs, active fault zones, strong seismic zones and ecologically sensitive areas. If it is not well controlled, it may cause major disasters. We need to repeatedly and profoundly consider from science and technology, how to ensure its safety and reliability, and avoid disasters.

Du Yanliang said that after various comparisons, the plan draws on the experience and enlightenment of cross-sea channel construction at home and abroad, based on the existing strait natural and geological data, comprehensive comparative analysis, and finally decided to choose the full tunnel plan; comprehensive comparison of construction difficulty and operational safety , Environmental protection, energy saving, etc., and can meet the requirements of railway transportation and road transportation at the same time, choose the transportation method of constructing railway tunnels; choose the northwest corner of Lushun Laotie Mountain, Penglai East Port as the landing point.

At the 2019 International Bridge and Tunnel Technology Conference, Sun Jun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a senior honorary professor of Tongji University, proposed a detailed construction plan that he believed to be appropriate: the southern section of the "Penglai-Long Island" line, due to the Changshan Islands Transition, and the water depth is shallow, you can build a bridge; the main body of the northward sea area, because the water depth increases, and there are basically no small islands for transition, the feasible scheme should be the seabed high-speed railway tunnel.

In addition, Du Yanliang also suggested that the construction of the Bohai Strait Cross-Sea Channel should be promoted as soon as possible to serve the national strategy, establish a provincial government-level coordination work mechanism, strengthen Liaoning-Shandong smooth and effective information communication, jointly build a cooperation platform, and actively carry out work ; Prioritize the construction of the Pengcai-Changdao Subsea Tunnel to verify the feasibility of the overall plan of the Bohai Strait Cross-sea Channel; it is recommended to start the key scientific and technical research of the ultra-long cross-sea tunnel as soon as possible in accordance with the construction needs; Provide strong scientific support.

Will reach 300 billion

In 2019, at the International Bridge and Tunnel Technology Conference, Sun Jun said that the internal research of the Bohai Bay Cross-sea Passage has reached a key node, and the research team has completed the strategic planning research report of the passage plan and submitted it to the National Development and Reform Commission for approval and preliminary estimates. The project capital is 300 billion yuan.

Sun Jun delivered a speech at the meeting titled "Some Thoughts on the Construction of the Bohai Bay Cross-sea Passage". He said that the Bohai Bay Cross-Sea Passage, or “Yantai Cross-Sea Passage”, was an important part of the “Tong San Guo Road” (Tongjiang City, Heilongjiang Province – Sanya City, Hainan Province) in China ’s coastal transportation development plan, as early as the last century Planning began in the late 1980s. At present, the Hangzhou Bay Cross-sea Bridge has been in operation for many years, and the Qiongzhou Strait Train Passenger and Freight Ferry has also been opened for use. Only the Bohai Bay Cross-sea Channel has not yet been activated.

Regarding the urgency of constructing the Bohai Bay Cross-sea Passage, Sun Jun put forward three points: firstly, the demand for the increase in traffic volume inside and outside Shanhaiguan; secondly, the convenience of transportation; and thirdly, the area benefit after the completion of the passageway.

Sun Jun believes that the increasing demand for transportation within and outside Shanhaiguan is the decisive factor for the construction of the Bohai Bay Cross-sea Passage. At present, the railway transportation capacity within and outside the customs can still meet the requirements. After the Beijing-Shenzhen High-speed Railway was put into operation in 2018, it can actually provide 230 million passengers / year, but 5 to 7 years later, with the construction of the Bohai Bay Rim City Cluster and its Industrial development and the rise of the Xiong'an New District, the total annual passenger demand will reach 300 million passengers, railway transport capacity within and outside the customs will be "stretched." If the method of adding trains on the old line is still used (the capacity of the Jinpu section is currently saturated), it is imperative to build a cross-sea channel as soon as possible.

Sun Jun also said that the convenience of transportation is also one of the reasons for the construction of the Bohai Bay Cross-sea Channel. According to preliminary estimates by Sun Jun, the total construction cost of the entire Bohai Bay Cross-sea Channel will reach 300 billion yuan, with a construction period of about 15 to 20 years.
