On the morning of June 30, 2020, the Guangdong Province Meilong High-speed Railway Project started construction mobilization meeting in Wuhua County, Meizhou City. The project is the first high-speed railway project with a speed of 350 kilometers per hour invested and constructed by Guangdong Province.

The Meizhou-Longchuan Railway is located in the two cities of Meizhou and Heyuan. It is the first high-speed rail project to be constructed after the establishment of the Guangdong General Headquarters for Major Transportation Infrastructure Projects. It is also a major project in which Meizhou, Heyuan and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area are closely linked. It is planned to be opened to traffic in 2024.

The project line leads from Meizhou West Railway Station of Meishan High Speed Rail, passes through Meixian District of Meizhou City, Xingning City, Wuhua County and Longchuan County of Heyuan City, and ends at Longchuan West Railway Station of Ganshen High Speed Railway. It has a length of 93.986km, a bridge-to-tunnel ratio of 80.3%, and a design speed of 350km/h. There are 4 stations on the entire line, including Xingning South Station and Wuhua Station.

After the Meilong Railway Project is completed, it will be connected to the Ganshen-Guangzhou-Shantou Railway, and Meizhou City will reach 90 minutes from the central urban areas of Guangzhou and Shenzhen. It will be connected to the Meishan-Ganshen Railway to build the Chaoshan area to Ganzhou, Nanchang and Convenient high-speed rail passages in areas farther away are helpful to promote the integration of Meizhou into the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Shenzhen's first demonstration area.
