On July 1, 2020, my country's first independently designed and constructed Shanghai-Sutong Yangtze River Highway and Railway Bridge with a main span of 1,000 kilometers was completed, and it was opened for operation simultaneously with the Shanghai-Sutong Railway. The design and construction technology of the Shanghai-Sutong Bridge has achieved five "world firsts", which is a milestone in the history of railway bridge construction in my country and the world. The opening and operation of the Shanghai-Sutong Railway has greatly improved the railway's transportation capacity across the river, shortened the space-time distance between Shanghai and Nantong and northern Jiangsu, and will effectively promote the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region.
The Shanghai-Sutong Yangtze River Highway and Railway Bridge has a total length of 11072 meters, of which the main bridge is 5827 meters long, the north-south shore approach bridge is 5245 meters long, and the main span is 1092 meters. It is the world’s first 4-line railway + 6-lane road and the main span is over 1,000 kilometers. The dual-purpose cable-stayed bridge can meet the navigation requirements of 50,000-ton container ships and 100,000-ton bulk carriers. The Shanghai-Sutong Railway, Tongsu Jiayong Railway and Xitong Expressway cross the Yangtze River through the bridge and pass through the north and south.
The construction of the Shanghai-Sutong Yangtze River Public Railway Bridge started in May 2014. In September 2019, the main span of the bridge was Helong, which consumed about 480,000 tons of steel and about 2.3 million cubic meters of concrete. The main characteristics are "high" "big" "new" . "High" means the main tower is 330 meters high, which is the world's tallest public-rail cable-stayed bridge main tower; "Large" means large span and large volume. The main span of the main channel bridge is 1092 meters, which is the largest span cable-stayed bridge in China. It is also the world's largest span public-rail cable-stayed bridge; the sinking well foundation is large, the main tower pier sinking plane is equivalent to the size of 12 basketball courts, and the sinking well height is 110.5 meters, which is the world's largest volume sinking well foundation. "New" refers to the use of a large number of new materials, new structures, new equipment and new processes. During the construction of the bridge, a series of scientific research was carried out, 65 patents were formed, 14 new construction methods were created, major breakthroughs were made in bridge construction technology, and five "world firsts" were achieved. First, it is the world's first to realize the design and construction technology of kilometer-level public-rail cable-stayed bridges; second, it is the world's first to realize the manufacturing technology of 2000 megapascal strength cable stay; It is the world's first to realize the precise positioning construction technology of 15,000 tons of huge sunk wells; Fifth, it is the world's first to realize the pier anti-collision technology based on the in-situ impact test of the real ship-real bridge. The in-situ ship collision test was organized for the first time in the world, which can achieve an active early warning of collision prevention within a range of 3 kilometers, effectively ensuring the safety of bridges and ships.
After the opening of the Shanghai-Sutong Railway, it will be connected to the Yancheng to Nantong Railway under construction and the Lianyungang to Yancheng Railway, Nanjing to Qidong Railway, Xinyi to Changxing Railway to the north, and Shanghai to Kunming High Speed Railway to the south. A convenient railway transportation channel was formed between Ludong, Northern Jiangsu and Shanghai, Southern Jiangsu, and East Zhejiang. The travel time from Shanghai to Nantong was reduced from 3.5 hours to 1 hour and 6 minutes, which greatly shortened Shanghai and Nantong.
