The Kenyan government, through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, invited tenders for the construction of the proposed Nairobi Railway City, which aims to expand the central business district.

This tender announcement was issued by the Railway Urban Development Authority (RCDA), which stated that all interested and qualified candidates must bid on or before August 20, 2020.

Project implementation

Iconic intermodal, city-oriented urban development projects, including a new railway station that allows the integration of BRT and other public transportation methods as well as other commercial developments, including skyscrapers, residential apartments, cultural centers and museums , Is part of the "Nairobi Comprehensive Urban Development Plan".

This 425-acre land is located on Haile Selassie Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Bunyala Road, Commercial Street and Landhies Road.

The first stage requires the construction of conference, incentive conference and exhibition facilities along Bunyala Road. This phase will be implemented between 2020 and 2023.

The second phase will build an economic zone composed of high-tech industries and small and medium enterprises, while the third and final phase, the East Core, will build a housing unit with schools, parks and affordable residential areas.

After completion, the free economic zone is expected to create more than 200,000 jobs, while the residential area is expected to accommodate approximately 28,000 residents. The project will be the largest and most ambitious development project in the history of the metropolitan area, and is expected to attract local and international private capital.
