AECOM has won a contract for the design of transportation and utility infrastructure for the US$500 billion NEOM Bay large-scale project in Saudi Arabia. In addition to design services, Aecom's scope of work also includes environmental and geotechnical technical support.

Brett Smythe, chief project officer at AECOM, said AECOM will help NEOM create the "main and infrastructure" needed to support this ambitious project. "NEOM's next-generation cognitive city will support its cutting-edge urban environment and improve the lives of residents and businesses, far beyond the capabilities of today's smart cities; it will become a beacon of future life."

NEOM Bay Project

Located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia, on the border with Jordan and Egypt, Neom is the flagship project of Saudi Arabia's "Vision 2030" post-petroleum diversification plan, which aims to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons. It is being supervised by public investment funds.

New Bay will become a special economic zone and a diversified society, providing people with world-class education, medical care and culture, and providing people with a new way of life. After the completion of the first phase of the New Bay project, it will cover an area of 45 square kilometers, including thousands of residential units, leisure, retail, commercial, public and entertainment facilities, as well as supporting infrastructure and public facilities.
