On November 3, 2020, the Liuhua 29-1 gas field jointly developed by CNOOC and Husky Oil China Co., Ltd. was successfully put into production. It is reported that after the gas field is put into production, the annual new natural gas production can be used by about 10 million residents for one year.

It is reported that this is the third deep-water gas field in the South China Sea after the Liwan 3-1 gas field and Liuhua 34-2 gas field. Prior to this, the Liwan 3-1 gas field jointly developed by CNOOC and Husky Petroleum China was put into operation in 2014. Since then, Liuhua 34-2 and other gas fields have been put into production one after another, and the Liwan 3-1 gas field constitutes the core of the rolling development of deep water gas fields in the eastern South China Sea, forming the first deep water gas field group in the South China Sea.

So far, the gas field cluster has produced more than 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which is equivalent to the annual gas consumption of nearly 200 million households with three members. The annual gas supply accounts for about 25% of the total natural gas consumption in Guangdong Province. The economic and social development of the Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has injected momentum.

The Liuhua 29-1 gas field put into production this time is located in the eastern waters of the South China Sea, with a water depth of 640 to 785 meters. The gas field development project includes 7 development wells, relying on existing facilities in the Liwan 3-1 and Liuhua 34-2 gas fields to achieve regional joint development, with a peak daily output of 1.7 million cubic meters after commissioning.

According to Wang Yijiang, deputy manager of the Liuhua 29-1 gas field development project, since the start of construction in May 2018, the project has been mechanically completed 24 days in advance after overcoming challenges such as the new crown pneumonia epidemic. CNOOC promoted the localization of engineering resources and applied more than 10 deepwater oil and gas development technologies for the first time in China, further enhancing China's deepwater oil and gas development capabilities.

Tracy Mosness, vice president of production and development of Husky Petroleum China, said that Husky and CNOOC have cooperated for many years. Thanks to the close communication and sincere cooperation between the two parties, the new crown pneumonia epidemic has not had a substantial impact on the Liuhua 29-1 gas field development project. .

According to reports, since the reform and opening up, CNOOC has signed more than 200 oil cooperation contracts with 81 international oil companies from 21 countries, and has attracted a total of 30 billion US dollars of foreign investment. Among them, the eastern part of the South China Sea has signed 101 foreign cooperative oil contracts and agreements with 58 overseas oil companies from 16 countries, and the cumulative cooperative production of oil and gas exceeds 150 million tons.
