The construction of a new underground high-speed rail link between Shanghai Pudong and Hongqiao airports has started. In the future, the travel time between the two airports will be greatly shortened. It takes about 90 minutes from Pudong Airport to Hongqiao Airport to take Metro Line 2; the bus time is longer. After the completion of this airport link, the commuting time between the two airports will be shortened to within 40 minutes.

The Shanghai Airport Link Project has a total length of 68.6 kilometers, including Hongqiao Station (existing), Qibao Station, Huajing Station, Sanlin South Station, Zhangjiang Station, Resort Station, Pudong Airport Station, and Pudong Airport Planning Terminal There are 9 stations in Shanghai East Station and Shanghai East Station, with an average distance of 8.6 kilometers. It is expected to be completed in 2024.

The airport link is 68.6 kilometers long, and more than 88% is underground. The national railway intercity railway system is adopted, and the trains running on the line are intercity high-speed rail models. However, in terms of operation mode, rail transit-style bus operation is adopted. In other words, platform design, train schedule and other aspects are similar to subways, and citizens can use public transportation cards to enter and exit the station.

Shanghai Pudong Airport; Shanghai Pudong Airport is one of the two major international airports in Shanghai. It is about 30 kilometers away from downtown Shanghai and about 52 kilometers away from Hongqiao Airport. It is also known as the three major international airports in China along with Beijing Capital International Airport and Hong Kong International Airport. Pudong Airport is the first airport in China with four runways.

In fact, Pudong Airport has planned five parallel runways. Currently, the fifth runway is under construction. In the future, it will become a test runway for large domestic aircraft.

Shanghai Hongqiao Airport; Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is located in the western suburbs of Shanghai, only 13 kilometers away from the city center, with a construction area of 510,000 square meters. It was completed in 1907. Since 1996, Hongqiao Airport has repeatedly won the first place in the group of airports organized by China's civil aviation industry for civil aviation activities and passenger throughput of over 8 million passengers.

Shanghai East Railway Station is located in the free trade zone of Pudong Airport, Pudong New District, Shanghai, China. On December 15, 2019, construction of the second phase of the Shanghai-Tong-Shanghai Railway from Taicang to Si Tuan began, passing through Shanghai Pudong New Area to establish Shanghai East Station.
