There is a Wangu Temple in Yongji, Shanxi. The last building in the courtyard is the beamless temple of the Ming Dynasty. All are made of bricks, two floors, the middle of the upper floor is the top of Xieshan. There is no traditional Chinese wooden beam structure inside, so it is called the Temple without Beams.
The surface of the building is still imitating the wooden structure, with columns, arches, dougongs, rafters and flying zicks, etc. The roof is covered with blue and orange glazed tiles, which is magnificent.
There are a few brick-built beamless temples built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty in China. The building of the temples with bricks imitating wooden buildings was a pioneering work in the history of architecture more than 400 years ago. The beamless hall of Wangu Temple is undoubtedly the most exquisite and complicated inside. Editor/He Yuting
