Recently, according to the Dali State Transportation Bureau, the expansion and reconstruction of the Dali hub and the newly built Dali North High-speed Railway Station project strive to start construction in the first half of 2021. It is reported that the expansion and renovation project of the Dali Railway Hub is the core project of Dali's construction of a national comprehensive transportation hub, with a construction period of 3 years, including the Dali North High-speed Railway Station, Dali EMU and related connection line projects.

China Railway Group has agreed to the location plan of Dali Prefecture. The upgrading and reconstruction project of Dali Railway Station has been studied many times with the Kunming Railway Bureau, and the demolition and reconstruction program has been initially clarified. Since the upgrading, demolition and reconstruction of Dali Station will not proceed until Dali North High-speed Railway Station is completed, it is proposed to increase the temporary station area of Dali Station by 7,000 square meters to alleviate the insufficient waiting area of Dali Station after the opening of Dali Railway and Dali Railway The temporary station building of Dali Station is being optimized by the design unit, striving to start construction in 2021.

At present, there are no maintenance and storage facilities for EMUs in the Dali Railway Hub, and only Kunming-Dali EMU trains are operated. It is difficult to further increase the number of trains and operate medium and long-distance EMUs that radiate outside the province. Passenger transport facilities such as waiting rooms and arrival and departure lines at Dali Station cannot meet the demand for passenger flow, and large-scale reconstruction and expansion are extremely difficult.

Dali Railway Station was completed and put into use in 1999. It is a first-class station under the jurisdiction of China Railway Kunming Bureau Group Co., Ltd. The station yard renovation was completed in 2018, but due to factors such as insufficient capacity of passenger transportation facilities, it is still difficult to meet passenger transportation needs.

The railways under construction in the Dali Railway Hub are Dali Railway (Dali-Ruili) and Dali Railway (Dali-Lincang). Both railways lead from the west end of Dali Station. The planned Dalipan Railway leads from the northern end of the hub, and the southern end must be connected to the Kunchu Intercity Railway.

On September 15, 2020, a seminar on the feasibility study plan for the expansion and renovation project of Dali Hub was held in Beijing. According to the plan, Dali will adopt the site selection plan recommended by the China Railway Second Institute to build a new high-speed railway station on the west side of Hongshan.
