The Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil stated on December 8, 2020 that Brazil will hold eight power generation bids in 2021.
According to a statement, four new energy projects will participate in the bidding: A-3 and A4 to be held in June, and A-5 and A-6 to be held in September. This number indicates the time frame for the start of power supply. For example, the winner of the A-3 bid has three years to start operations.
Eligible to participate in the A-3 and A-3 tenders are hydropower, wind power, photovoltaic solar power, and biomass power plants. In addition to municipal solid waste incineration projects, the A-5 and A-6 bidding projects will also accept combustion. Coal and natural gas projects.
For the existing energy auctions, the power regulator Aneel will hold the A-4 and A-5 auctions in June, and the A-1 and A-2 auctions in December. The first two plans were originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but they were postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis.
In 2022 and 2023, in addition to the A-1 and A-2 bidding in December, Brazil plans to hold A-4 and A-6 new energy auctions in April and September each year.
In 2020, Brazil has only one power generation tender, the A-1 held last week. The contract supply for the auction was 876 million kilowatt-hours at a price of 12.4 million reais ($2.43 million). Editor/Sang Xiaomei
