The Portuguese construction company Mota-Engil has won a contract to construct a railway line between Nigeria and Niger. According to the budget approved by the Federal Executive Committee of Nigeria in 2020, the cost of the project is estimated to be approximately US$2 billion.
The new railway line will connect the northern city of Kano in Nigeria with Maradi in Niger.
Nigeria’s Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaki, wrote on Twitter: “We have signed the Kano-Maradi and Kano-Duce railway projects’ start-up contracts. As part of the agreement, Mota-Engil will also Build a university."
The corridor will pass through Kano, Jigawa and Kachina in Nigeria, and Maladi in the Republic of Niger.
This railway line will also cover other cities in Nigeria, such as Danbata, Kazel, Daula, Mahi, Katsina and Gibia.
The Minister stated that this 284-kilometer-long railway line will be integrated with road transport, which in turn will help promote freight and passenger transport.Editor/Huang Lijun
