2020 is an extraordinary year. Rwanda therefore uses nuclear technology to promote economic growth and transformation, and promote the stable development of nuclear energy, because nuclear energy is regarded as a key factor in promoting the development of energy, health, safety and other industries.
Rwanda Nuclear Industry Journey
Around 2011, when the country became a full member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), significant progress has been made in laying the foundation in 2020.
In June 2020, the parliament voted to approve the agreement between Rwanda and Russia on the establishment of a nuclear science and technology center in Rwanda. The agreement was signed by Russia and Russia at the Russia-Africa Economic Forum on October 24, 2019.
In October 2020, the Cabinet reviewed and approved the draft law approving Rwanda's accession to the Convention on Assistance in the Case of Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency. The convention is a multilateral treaty of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and Rwanda is a member of the agency.
So far, 122 countries have ratified or acceded to the Convention.
The Minister of Infrastructure of Rwanda, Kravel Gattet, and Alexei Likhachev, the general manager of the Russian National Atomic Energy Corporation-Rosatom, signed a nuclear energy agreement in December 2018.
Yves Hartgekimana, a Rwandan researcher at the Institute of Aerospace Information of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, believes that by using nuclear energy, we can achieve energy goals and create more jobs, because without energy, a country cannot be industrialized. "
