Recently, the Western Australian state government has allocated nearly 3 million Australian dollars (15033300 yuan) of regional airport development plan grants to 25 projects across the state.
Other projects funded through this round of grants include: Carnarvon Airport, US$355,718, Wiluna Airport, US$376,000, and Goldfields’ Mantamaru (Jameson) Community Airstrip, US$290,000.
Kimberley Balgo Mountain Airport
In the plan, the Kimberley Balgo Mountain Airport received the highest funding of more than $427,000, which will help upgrade the runway and replace the runway lighting to make night landings safer.
Gold mining area-Esperance area
The region received the most funding of more than $634,000 and was shared by six airports for projects such as improving the runway surface, installing solar airstrip lighting and improving safety; installing fences to keep animals away from the runway.
Remote aboriginal areas
In this round of the RADS program, a total of nearly US$1 million has been provided in eight grants, which will provide improved airport facilities in remote aboriginal areas. Air visits are vital to the health and well-being of these remote residents.
Western Australia Minister of Transport Rita Saffioti said: "This round of RADS funding focuses on labor-intensive infrastructure projects, which can be completed by the end of 2021 to help stimulate the regional economy, increase local employment opportunities and assist the development of the aviation industry.
The funding of this round of RADS grants has increased to 75% of the project cost. These projects can be completed before December 31, 2021, and can prove the employment of locals, thereby helping to stimulate the state’s economic recovery.
Ms. Saffioti said: “The 2021-23 RADS grant will help improve the safety, convenience and safety of these areas and remote airports, and improve access to medical services, community connections and business opportunities.” Editor/Tian Zengpeng
