On January 22, local time, the groundbreaking ceremony for the water supply and sewage pipeline project in Mqingga Province, Zambia undertaken by China Construction was held in Mpika, the central town of Mqingga Province.
Project details
In his speech, President Lungu emphasized the importance of the construction of the project. The project is one of Zambia’s important infrastructures. After completion, it will double the daily water availability in Mpica and Nakund regions in Mqingga Province. Improve the coverage of water supply and the capacity of sanitation services, to a large extent, alleviate the long-term water supply shortage problems faced by the local area, and promote local economic development.
The project content includes the construction of a water treatment plant with a production capacity of 400 cubic meters per hour in Mpika City, Mqingga Province, including the construction of a pumping station and supporting electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as a chlorination room and the installation of chlorination equipment and related facilities. Newly build a clean water tank of 1,500 cubic meters, two storage tanks of 1,500 cubic meters, install a clean water pipeline network totaling about 50 kilometers, and fully restore the original sewage treatment system; rebuild existing water plants in Nakonde City , Newly built sewage pipe network facilities, including the installation of 4,600 prepaid water meters, 25 bulk water meters and remote measurement systems in Mpica and Nakonde.

The water supply and sewage pipeline project in Mqingga Province, Zambia is the second municipal water supply project implemented by China State Construction in Zambia.
