On January 24, 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Uzbekistan Syr River 1500MW Gas Combined Cycle Independent Power Generation Project undertaken by Energy China Gezhouba International Corporation was held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, and Shirin City, where the project is located.

Umurzakov, Deputy Prime Minister of Umurzakov, stated in his speech that the Syr Darya 1500MW gas turbine project is an important project to adjust Uzbekistan’s energy structure and increase power production capacity. At the same time, the project is the first independent developer approved by the Uzbekistan government. The investment project is a milestone in the development of Uzbekistan's energy sector.

Sherzod Khodjaev, Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, said that the rapid implementation of the project and the on-scheduled power generation are crucial. The Uzbek government will actively coordinate all participating units to meet each other and jointly promote the development and construction of the project.

Uzbekistan is a "landlocked country" in the hinterland of Central Asia and the only way for the Belt and Road to extend westward. The Uzbek government has been committed to actively participating in the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and promoting economic and trade exchanges and energy cooperation. The project adopts the gas turbine with the highest combustion temperature, the highest single power, the highest efficiency in the world, and the "zero waste water discharge" design scheme. It can provide more than 36 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to the local grid every day, benefiting millions of Uzbekistan residents. It is the government of Uzbekistan Important livelihood projects planned. The developer of this project is located in Saudi Arabia, the general contractor of the project is from China, the main engine of the project is a Japanese Mitsubishi H-class gas turbine, and many Uzbekistan companies participate. The successful start of the project created an example of third-party cooperation among Chinese, Saudi, Japanese, and Uzbek companies in the fields of technology, capital, and construction.

The Syr Darya 1500MW Gas Combined Cycle Independent Power Generation Project in Uzbekistan is located in Syr Darya Oblast, Uzbekistan, about 150 kilometers south of the capital Tashkent. A 1500MW gas combined cycle power station will be built to be responsible for the design, procurement, construction, commissioning and trial of the power station. Operation, the contract duration is 36 months.

This project is also a major livelihood project where Gezhouba International has made double breakthroughs in the Uzbekistan national market and gas turbine field. It is the third project promoted by the international company and ACWA Power to further implement the strategy of deepening large customers. Since the signing of the PPA for the project in March 2020, international companies have actively leveraged their internal collaboration and professional advantages, innovated working methods, and overcome the adverse effects of the epidemic, and have been closely cooperating with the developer ACWA Power to promote project development.
