On January 28, 2020, Tirana International Airport has the franchise right to operate the Mother Teresa International Airport in the capital of Albania. The company said it plans to invest about 100 million euros (121 million US dollars) to improve the airport infrastructure.

Tirana International Airport said in a statement that Tirana International Airport plans to increase its passenger capacity by 6 million annually, expand the runway, and improve the airport’s infrastructure and service quality. The airport operator added that it will reduce passenger fares from 12.50 euros to 10 euros, which will result in cheaper tickets and an increase in the number of flights and destinations served.

Tirana International Airport also said it plans to open up ground handling services and aircraft fuel markets.

In December 2020, the Albanian diversified group Kastrati acquired TIA from a Chinese private company for 71 million euros.

Mother Teresa is the only international airport operating in Albania. The website shows that the airport will receive 1.3 million passengers by 2020.Editor/Huang Lijun
