The handover ceremony of China's donation of therapeutic nutritious food to children in South Sudan was held at the UNICEF warehouse in Juba. This time, the Chinese government will provide support to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to help improve the nutritional status of children affected by the New Crest and Desert Locust Plagues in South Sudan. Ambassador Hua Ning of China to South Sudan and Interim Representative of UNICEF to South Sudan Andrea Sulei attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Commercial Counsellor Cai Senming of the Chinese Embassy and other officials attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Hua said that over the years, the Chinese government has paid great attention to the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan, including the severe malnutrition of children, and has provided several batches of humanitarian assistance to South Sudan through bilateral and multilateral channels. He pointed out that China has always firmly supported and actively practiced multilateralism. At the high-level meetings marking the 75th anniversary of the UN last year, President Xi Jinping stressed that the international community should adhere to win-win cooperation, reaffirmed its commitment to multilateralism and announced a series of major initiatives and measures. China has carried out humanitarian relief operations in South Africa in cooperation with several UN agencies. This is the first direct cooperation project between China and UNICEF in South Africa, which will help alleviate the serious nutritional shortage of children in South Africa and help many families in urgent need of assistance. We trust that UNICEF will carry out this project with professionalism and responsibility.

Su Lei thanked China for its strong support to the UNICEF Children's Nutritional Food Program in South Sudan. She stressed that the therapeutic nutritional food donated by China will save lives and bring hope to South African children in crisis. Children in southern China suffer from severe malnutrition and are in desperate need of food and nourishment. UNICEF will pay more attention to the prevention of child malnutrition and strengthen its cooperation with the Yugoslavian Government and the international community. We hope that more international partners will join China in providing support for humanitarian projects in South Sudan.

Due to wars, epidemics and various natural disasters, children in South Africa are facing a severe food and nutrition crisis. This year, more than 310,000 children in South Africa are suffering from severe malnutrition.

After the handover ceremony, Ambassador Hua Ning and Interim Representative Su Lei jointly gave an interview to the media.

Chinese and foreign media, including Radio South Sudan, the Juba Observer and Xinhua, reported on the handover ceremony. After the ceremony, the materials donated by China were immediately loaded and transported to Bor and other areas in South Sudan.
