On February 22, 2021, China's Bohai Sea made another large-scale oil and gas discovery-Bozhong 13-2 oil and gas field, and proved geological reserves of 100 million tons of oil and gas equivalent.

The Bozhong 13-2 oil and gas field is located in the central waters of the Bohai Sea, about 140 kilometers away from Tianjin, with an average water depth of about 23.2 meters. The discovery well Bozhong 13-2-2 encountered an oil layer with a thickness of about 346 meters and was completed at a depth of 5223 meters. After testing, the well has an average daily output of about 300 tons of crude oil and about 150,000 cubic meters of natural gas.

The discovery of the Bozhong 13-2 oil and gas field has achieved a major breakthrough in the exploration of "covered" buried hills in the Bohai Sea, greatly expanded the space for buried hill exploration, and has important promotion value for the future exploration of similar types of buried hills in the Bohai Sea and offshore China.

It is understood that in recent years, CNOOC has unswervingly promoted the "seven-year action plan" for increasing reserves and production. Researchers have continuously strengthened geological knowledge innovation and exploration technology breakthroughs around complex geological structures such as buried hills. In just two years, Bohai has successively made a series of major oil and gas discoveries such as the large-scale condensate gas field Bozhong 19-6 and the billion-ton oil field Kenli 6-1. CNOOC Party Secretary and Chairman Wang Dongjin said that in the future, CNOOC will continue to play its role as the “main force” in increasing oil and gas reserves and production, continue to increase exploration investment, and aim to find large and medium-sized oil and gas fields to ensure national energy security.

The discovery of the Bozhong 13-2 oil and gas field is another important exploration achievement that CNOOC continues to increase its domestic oil and gas exploration and development efforts. After the Bozhong 13-2 oil and gas field is put into operation, it will cooperate with the Bozhong 19-6 condensate gas field and other producing oil and gas fields, and at the same time help Bohai Oil Field strive to build China's largest crude oil production base, and give play to offshore oil and gas production for the safety and stability of China's oil and gas resources The important role of supply and reduction of foreign dependence will further consolidate the foundation of China's offshore oil and gas resources.
