The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT) of Bahrain has begun procurement for a public-private partnership plan for a 109-kilometer urban rail transit network.
The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of Bahrain plans to hold the "Virtual Sounding Forum for the Global Market" for international construction companies in the first week of March. Subsequently, the global tendering and bidding procedures supervised by KPMG will be released.
The construction value of the Bahrain subway station will be as high as US$2 billion, and four lines will be developed in phases.
The first stage is 28.6 kilometers long
The first stage will consist of two lines, red and blue, with an estimated length of 28.6 kilometers. These will include 20 stations with two interchange stations and will connect Bahrain International Airport as well as major residential, commercial and school districts.
Bahrain’s Minister of Transport, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohamed, said: “Through the Bahrain Metro Project, the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of Bahrain hopes to apply the latest technology that meets international standards. This marks a milestone because it will be provided in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Fast, comfortable, reliable and sustainable transportation systems to improve the quality of life of citizens."
The project was first announced in 2008, and construction is scheduled to start in 2009. However, the project was postponed due to the global financial crisis. After Bilbao-based consulting firm IDOM completed a feasibility study for the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of Bahrain, the project continued to advance in 2018. Editor/Huang Lijun
