On January 24, 2021, the Kigaz Overpass Project in Tanzania undertaken by China Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd. was officially completed and opened to traffic. The opening ceremony was held in Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania.
Kigaz Overpass is the first overpass project led by the Tanzanian government and is located at the intersection of several main roads in Dar es Salaam. The project started construction in May 2017 and is mainly composed of a three-story overpass and supporting diversion roads. The main bridge is 710 meters long and the highest point is 17.5 meters.
Tanzanian President Magufuli stated that the completion of the Kigaz overpass will greatly ease the traffic congestion in Dar es Salaam and provide convenience for local people to travel.
Zhang Junle, general manager of China Civil Engineering East Africa Co., Ltd. said: "The completion of the project will not only help improve local traffic conditions, but also create nearly a thousand jobs.
