In an interview with Xinhua News Agency in Sao Paulo recently, the governor of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Joao Doria, said: "Sao Paulo has the obligation and responsibility to continue to maintain a good partnership with China at all levels. As governor of Sao Paulo, I will defend that position.
From August 3 to 10, 2019, Doria led a delegation to visit Beijing and Xi'an, and attended the unveiling ceremony of the Sao Paulo State Representative Office in China in Shanghai. "This is the most important trip to China in the history of the state government of Sao Paulo, and perhaps Brazil's most important trip to China as far as the specific trade results are concerned," Doria said.
Q: What is the greatest benefit of this visit?
Doria: The delegation's trip attracted $24.8 billion in investment for the construction of the state of Sao Paulo over the next 10 years, which will be invested in the agriculture, automobile manufacturing, transportation, science and technology, health care and education sectors in the state of Sao Paulo.
Q: What are the future plans for cooperation with China?
Doria: China is the largest trading partner of Brazil and Sao Paulo. We should create new opportunities for China to invest in Brazil, especially in Sao Paulo, increase employment and transfer technology. Whoever acts more quickly and gives the best conditions will be able to better grasp the good opportunities for development provided by China.
Q: Which aspect of cooperation between Sao Paulo and China has the most advantages?
Doria: Many of Brazil's exports come from the state of Sao Paulo, especially sugar and alcohol, as well as orange juice, soybeans, corn and other grains. I think Sao Paulo has an advantage in this respect.
Q: Sao Paulo is the most economically developed state in Brazil, accounting for 33% of Brazil's GDP. So what remarkable achievements has Sao Paulo achieved in its cooperation with China?
Doria: There are more than 200 Chinese companies in Sao Paulo. The vast majority of overseas Chinese in Brazil live in Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo is a major export destination for China in Latin America.
Q: The BRICS Leaders'Informal Meeting will be held in Brazil in November 2019. How do you feel about the impact of this meeting?
Doria: This meeting will have a significant positive impact on the development of relations between Brazil and China, as well as with other BRICS countries. Cooperation among BRICS countries is beneficial to China, Brazil and the world. These markets can absorb China's technology in infrastructure and engineering, which will mobilize the vitality of the world economy. Editor/Zhao Jing
