In the world's largest solar thermal project Dubai 700MW solar thermal power plant project, there is a Wuhan girl, Liu Yuxi, who is unknown to more than two thousand Chinese and foreign builders.
In this project, which is located in the middle of the desert in the Middle East, with year-round high temperature and heat waves, the difficulties of living and working environment can be imagined, and there are only a handful of female builders. However, this girl who is willing to endure hardships and is enthusiastic takes on the responsibility of the project executive director and acts as the "master housekeeper" of Chinese and foreign builders.
One meal, make Shikoku delicious
The Dubai 700MW CSP project is located deep in the desert, a two-hour drive from the urban accommodation area. When construction started in 2018, there was no canteen on the project site. Many engineers often work overtime and do not eat dinner until ten o'clock in the evening due to heavy work on site.
Liu Yuxi made up his mind to build a canteen in the project office area. However, the local environmental protection department in Dubai strictly reviews cooking rooms and the procedures are extremely complicated. To prepare for the approval documents, she did not speak the local language, so she patiently searched on the subnet one by one; she was lost on the streets of a foreign country during the on-site approval of the department, and she repeatedly asked passers-by to set off again... After a whole half month of hard work, the CSP project" "Food City" finally opened.
The project builders come from different countries and nationalities, and their eating habits are also different: Hussein likes to eat lamb skewers, Pakistani Saiyide likes to eat grilled naan, and Filipino Serin likes to eat curry rice...
Liu Yuxi recorded the chef's preparations one by one, plus the Chinese dishes prepared for the Chinese builders, and made a meal of the four countries' delicacies. Liu Yuxi said: "Many of our builders bid farewell to their hometowns to contribute to the Belt and Road Initiative. I must do my best to make them eat better and feel more warmth."
Out-of-pocket support for employees in need
The Dubai CSP project was undertaken by the second company of China Construction Third Bureau, a central enterprise in Han Dynasty. It is a key project of China's One Belt One Road construction. After completion, it can provide green energy for 320,000 households in the UAE. At present, there are more than 2500 builders from various countries on the project, and they are making the final sprint for power generation.
Ibran, an Indian employee, is an electromechanical maintenance worker, and language problems have a significant impact on his usual work. Liu Yuxi mobilized volunteers from the project "Inclusive of all rivers and Leifeng classes" to hold two Chinese language training classes a week to encourage foreign employees to actively participate.
During the study and exchange, Liu Yuxi learned that Ibron’s family was very poor. The nine-year-old brother had to drop out of school and work odd jobs on the construction site because he couldn't afford the tuition. Liu Yuxi discussed with her husband Luo Lu, who is also an overseas builder, and decided to spend 2,000 yuan a month to help his family tide over the difficulties. "I have been in the CSP project for more than two years. The employees here are like my family. I can't ignore their affairs." Liu Yuxi said.
33-year-old Liu Yuxi, 2021 will be her eighth year in overseas. Love, marriage...These major life events are all done overseas, and only one month each year can return to Wuhan to accompany their parents. Parents always ask at the end of the video call: "Daughter, are you coming back soon?" Liu Yuxi always said every time: "Parents, soon, soon, when our project generates power, I will definitely return to my country to accompany you." Editor/ He Yuting
