On March 8, 2021, Cummins Corporation and Cummins Westport Co., Ltd. announced the launch of an integrated power chain product consisting of ISX12N engine + Indy Endurant HD N automatic transmission, providing new natural gas powertrain solutions for heavy-duty applications. The combination of the near-zero emission ISX12N natural gas engine and the Winning Endurant HD N 12-speed automatic transmission produced by Eaton Cummins provides an ideal power chain choice for heavy-duty transportation fleets committed to reducing emissions and sustainable operations.
Thomas R. Hodek, President of Cummins Westport Co., Ltd. said: "The combination of the ultra-low emission ISX12N engine and the Indy Endurant HD N gearbox provides an ideal powertrain solution for customers who are committed to reducing their carbon footprint. This depth The integrated powertrain system has better starting performance and smoother shifting experience, bringing a more comfortable driving experience to the driver."
Realize optimized integration and optimized matching
When matched with the Indy Endurant HD N automatic transmission, the ISX12N natural gas engine has a power of 400 horsepower and a torque of 1450 lb-ft (1966N·m). It can use 100% compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG) or renewable Energy natural gas (RNG) is used as fuel. Compared with the existing standards of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), NOx emissions are reduced by 90%. When using renewable energy natural gas (RNG) as fuel, the system can achieve "carbon neutral" or even "carbon negative", with net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions equal to or lower than zero.
The new Indy Endurant HD N automatic gearbox has been optimized to achieve better integration with ISX12N natural gas engine. It has new software and calibration functions, and is equipped with a new type of diaphragm spring clutch to meet the load requirements of natural gas engines and protect the engine. At the same time, better performance is achieved.
Compared with the previous combination of natural gas engine and gearbox, the deep integration of engine and gearbox can provide better starting performance and smoother shifting.
In the Chinese market, with the launch of Cummins’ new natural gas national six heavy-duty power solution, Eaton Cummins’ Endurant transmission through system optimization and integration has also achieved optimal matching with Cummins’ 15N and 12N national six natural gas engines to maximize The compatibility of engine and gearbox provides natural gas clean energy power for heavy-duty trucks with different design requirements, helping customers meet increasingly stringent emission regulations and lower operating cost challenges.
