On March 12, 2021, the "Reply from the General Office of the Sichuan Provincial People's Government on Matters Concerning the Construction of the Tianfu New Area Via Meishan-Leshan Expressway Project" was officially launched. The document shows that the Sichuan Provincial Government agreed in principle to adopt the “build-operate-transfer” (BOT) method for the Tianfu New Area via Meishan to Leshan Expressway project. At this stage, the project is undergoing engineering feasibility studies, and strive to be approved within 2021.
Tianfu New Area via Meishan to Leshan Expressway
The route starts at Zhengxing Town, Tianfu New District, Chengdu, and connects to the G108 line that has been built. It passes through Shuangliu District, Pengshan District, Dongpo District, Renshou County, and Qingshen County of Meishan City, and ends at Leshan Ring Expressway. The total length of the route is about 94 kilometers, the total investment is about 31.7 billion yuan, the design speed is 120 kilometers per hour, and the number of "8+6+8" combined lanes is adopted.
At present, there is a large passage between Chengdu, Meishan and Leshan-Chengle Expressway, which was opened to traffic in 1999. In recent years, the economy along the route has developed rapidly and the traffic volume is too large. Chengle Expressway is undergoing expansion and transformation from two-way four-lane expansion. It is a two-way 8-lane highway.
The Tianfu New Area via Meishan to Leshan Expressway is an important part of the Chengdu-Huili Expressway in the "Sichuan Expressway Network Planning (2019-2035)". Once completed and opened to traffic, it will become a double line of Chengle Expressway, which will further improve the regional road network, strengthen the intercommunication between the road networks, and greatly enhance the radiation effect of Chengdu Polar Nuclear.
