Recently, the preliminary work of the Hefei-Wuhan section of a new high-speed rail linking Hubei and Anhui, the Shanghai-Yucheng high-speed rail, is progressing smoothly, and construction is expected to start at the end of 2021.

Hewu High Speed Rail

The Hefei-Wuhan section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chongqing High-speed Railway starts from Hefei City in Anhui Province in the east, passes through Lu'an City and Jinzhai County to the west, and then enters Hubei, passing through Macheng City and Hong'an County, and finally reaches the end point in Wuhan City. The total length of the Hewu high-speed railway is about 322 kilometers, including 166 kilometers in Anhui and 156 kilometers in Hubei. The planned operating speed is 350 kilometers per hour. The total project investment is estimated to be about 62.6 billion yuan.

According to the latest publicity analysis, the He-Wu high-speed railway has entered the stage of preparation, approval and preliminary design and measurement of relevant prerequisites for feasibility study approval, and the line direction and station plan of the whole line are basically clear. Along the line there are 9 stations including Hefei South Station, Lu'an North Station, Jinzhai East Station, Nanxi Station, Macheng North Station, Hong'an West Station, Changjiang New District Station, Wuhan Tianhe Station and Hankou Station. It can be seen from the latest progress that the Hefei-Wuhan high-speed railway strives to obtain the national work permit approval in April; complete the preliminary design review in August; complete the construction drawing review in November to ensure that construction starts at the end of the year.

After the completion of the Hefei-Wuhan high-speed rail line, it can be reached within one hour from Hefei to Wuhan at the fastest. This will be more conducive to Hefei and Wuhan's integration into the "one-hour high-speed rail economic circle" and inject new impetus into the development of the two places. At the same time, the He-Wu high-speed railway runs through central and western Anhui and eastern Hubei. As an important part of China's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway framework along the river, in the future, the exchange and cooperation between Hubei and Anhui will be more efficient through this link.
