The reconstruction of the lower valley is the largest livelihood project in Malawi in recent years. The project has a construction period of 36 months. The main construction content includes the No. 1 and No. 2 trunk canal and pipeline water supply projects. The No. 1 trunk canal is 26.8 kilometers long, the No. 2 trunk canal is 18 kilometers long, and the cross section of the trunk canal is an inverted trapezoidal structure. After the project is completed, it will benefit tens of thousands of families and provide them with basic living security. At the same time, it will effectively solve the problem of water shortage in the southern region and facilitate the transformation of Malawi's agriculture from small-scale farming to commercial agriculture.

The Shire River is 402 kilometers long and is the only drainage channel of Lake Malawi, the third largest freshwater lake in Africa. At present, Malawi's infrastructure is relatively backward. With the process of urbanization, its urban drinking water is also beginning to face shortages.
