Beeah, a waste management company in Sharjah, plans to work with Chinook Science in the UK to build the region's first waste-to-hydrogen project. The project is part of a US$180 million gasification project invested by the two companies in the emirate to convert waste into energy to meet the growing demand for green alternative fuels in the region. It will include a factory and a fuel station for vehicles that use hydrogen. Oil exporters in the Middle East plan to produce hydrogen for export in the future.
The UAE is developing a comprehensive road map to tap the potential of clean fuels. According to data from Fitch Solutions, the global hydrogen industry is expected to reach US$183 billion by 2023, up from US$129 billion in 2017. French investment bank Natixis estimates that by 2030, investment in hydrogen will exceed US$300 billion.
Green hydrogen
The national entities Adnock, Mubadala and ADQ formed an alliance this year to develop the hydrogen economy in the UAE. According to Bloomberg's research, by 2050, as the cost of solar energy continues to decline, green hydrogen will be cheaper than natural gas. "Green hydrogen will become an important pillar of our future energy landscape. Beeah has been cooperating with Chinook for some time. This is consistent with our long-term strategy of developing new sustainable energy solutions," Chairman Salim Ou Gas (Salim Al Owais) said. He said the company plans to support the UAE's hydrogen economy, energy diversification and decarbonization efforts. The company said that adding a gas station near the nuclear power plant will overcome the challenges associated with expensive transportation costs.
The space station will use the green hydrogen produced by the waste hydrogen plant from non-recyclable plastic waste and waste wood. Then, the clean alternative fuel will be sent to the gas station of the hydrogen-powered car. Group CEO Khaled Al Huraimel said: "Beeah has always recognized the value of energy recovery from waste. Through this new project, our goal is to support recycling on the entire regional front. economic.

Earlier, Dubai unveiled its first green hydrogen plant in the Mohammed bin Rashid Maktoum Solar Park, where the largest solar power plant in the UAE is located. The pilot project was developed by the Dubai Water and Power Authority, the 2020 World Expo and Siemens Energy in Germany. It aims to demonstrate how to use solar energy to generate hydrogen, store it and re-electrify it. The green variants of fuel are produced entirely from renewable energy sources.
