Recently, Synthos of Poland and the US-Japan consortium GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy signed an agreement on the possibility of building a nuclear reactor in Poland. Synthos is a producer of synthetic rubber and one of the largest producers of chemical raw materials in Poland, owned by the richest man in Poland, Michał Sołowow. In a statement, GE Hitachi stressed that Synthos is interested in reliable, “dedicated” carbon-free energy, and both companies are considering building a small modular reactor BWRX-300 in Poland. Jon Ball, senior director of GEH, said the reactor is designed to make energy costs competitive with other energy sources such as natural gas and renewable energy, which will be the industry's “breakthrough innovation”.

The company expects the first reactors to begin operation in 2028. The estimated cost per reactor is $1 billion. “Small modular reactors can play an important role in addressing Poland's energy challenges, modernizing the energy sector and achieving the necessary and responsible deep decarbonization,” Sołowow said. Using small modular reactors to generate clean energy will increase our chances of getting rid of coal. And have a positive impact on the industry and the country." Editor / Li Dan
