Tibet was peacefully liberated 70 years ago. In the past 70 years, Tibet's traffic has undergone earth-shaking changes. Recently, the Pai-Mo Highway, which has been built for nearly 7 years, is fully connected. The road is 67.22 kilometers long. It starts from Pai Town, Milin County, Linzhi City, Tibet Autonomous Region and ends at Beibeng Township, Medog County.
The construction environment along the Paimok Highway is harsh and the construction difficulty far exceeds that of the plains. Since the start of construction in 2014, the construction workers have abandoned their homes and rooted in the plateau, overcoming numerous difficulties, and pushing forward the construction of the project 228 days ahead of the original schedule.
The Paimo Highway is also a beautiful ecological and environmentally friendly road, passing forests, canyons, snow-capped mountains, and the Yarlung Zangbo River along the route, with magnificent scenery and beautiful peaks.
Medog County in Tibet is the last county in the country with highways. The Paimok Highway is the second highway in Medog, which is of great significance to the local people's livelihood and economic development.
“It’s too hard to get out of Medog by advancing. The avalanches, rocks, and cliffs of Galongla Snow Mountain are devouring the lives of those who try to climb almost every year.” said a villager in Damluoba Nationality Township, Medog County, Tibet.
The opening to traffic in Medog County has always affected governments at all levels. The Ministry of Transport made it clear in 2008 that it would end the history of no roads in Medog County as soon as possible.
With the care and support of the central government and governments at all levels, the Medog Highway was declared open to traffic on October 31, 2013, achieving the removal of China's last county without highways. Nowadays, the second highway to Medog-Paimo Highway is fully connected and will be opened to traffic soon. After completion, the length of the road from Nyingchi City to Medog County will be shortened to 180 kilometers, and the travel time will be shortened from the original 12 hours to about 4 hours, which is of decisive significance to the local people's livelihood and economic development.Editor/Baohongying
