On July 8, 2021, the 10-million-ton refinery supporting the China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline (CNPC Yunnan Petrochemical) has processed a total of 40 million tons of crude oil.

According to reports, since the start of production in August 2017, Yunnan Petrochemical has provided the society with 38.26 million tons of high-efficiency and high-quality cleaning products, achieving a total industrial output value of 207.9 billion yuan, and the cumulative crude oil processing has exceeded the 40 million tons mark. The project adopts a full hydrogenation process, with high safety and environmental protection level, strong adaptability for crude oil processing, advanced technology, complete equipment, high-quality and clean products, and other technical advantages. It can produce gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, liquefied gas, asphalt, etc.16 69 kinds of products, based in Yunnan Province, radiating southwestern regions, and exporting to Southeast Asian countries

The China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline is China's fourth strategic energy channel after the Central Asia oil and gas pipeline, the China-Russia crude oil pipeline, and the sea channel. As an important strategic supporting project of the China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline, the Yunnan Petrochemical’s 13 million tons/year oil refinery project is the only 10 million tons refinery put into operation during the 13th Five-Year Plan period of PetroChina, and it is the second largest refinery of PetroChina. The construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, safeguarding national energy security, and promoting the economic and social development of Yunnan Province are of great significance, and it has also completely ended the development dilemma of Yunnan Province’s lack of oil and gas.
