The Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) has awarded a civil construction contract of US$472.96 million (S$644 billion) for the design and construction of the Ang Mo Kio station and tunnel. The joint venture (JV) between Gammon Construction and Engineering and Bachy Soletanche Singapore won the first phase of the cross-island line (CRL1) contract.
The scope of work under the contract also includes addition and alteration (A&A) projects to use additional escalators to transform the existing Ang Mo Kio station along the North-South Line (NSL) and reconfigure its lobby area. CRL1 Ang Mo Kio station is a subway station near the intersection of Ang Mo Kio Avenue No. 3 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue No. 8.
After completion, the station will become the intersection between CRL and NSL, and will have an entrance, directly connecting AMK hub, Ang Mo Kio City Garden East, Ang Mo Kio integrated transportation hub and residential area. The two new entrances of Ang Mo Kio Station will be connected by underground passages across No. 3 and No. 8 of Ang Mo Kio Avenue.
The construction of Ang Mo Kio Station is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year and is scheduled to be completed in 2030. With a total length of more than 50 kilometers, the CRL is Singapore’s eighth MRT line and will serve the existing and future development of the eastern, western and northeastern corridors connecting the Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi District and other major hubs. The 29-kilometer-long CRL1 includes 12 stations from Aviation Park to Bright Hill and will serve residential and industrial areas including Serangoon North, Defu, Ang Mo Kio, Luoyang, Tampines, Pasir Ris and Hougang. Gammon Construction and Engineering is currently constructing Havelock Station and Mayflower Station along the Thomson-East Coastline (TEL). Currently, Bachy Soletanche Singapore is involved in the design and construction of the North-South Corridor Tunnel between Suffolk Walk and Novena Rise.Editor/Baohongying
