Recently, a professor at Boston University’s Paddy School of Global Studies said that China’s One Belt One Road initiative responds to the current economic needs of Latin America.
Former Chilean ambassador to China and professor at Boston University’s Paddy School of Global Studies, He George wrote: “The Belt and Road Initiative meets the development needs of Latin America, and China’s Belt and Road Initiative meets the development needs of the Latin American region. Help the region improve its competitiveness."
The article said that for a long time, the development of Latin America has faced an "infrastructure deficit", and investment in infrastructure and interconnection has been at a relatively low level. This hinders the economic growth of the Latin American region and also constitutes an important obstacle to the improvement of the region’s international competitiveness. Mainly due to factors such as lack of investment and lack of systemic policies, as of 2014, 18.5 million residents in Latin America were still not connected to the power grid, and 24 million residents could not guarantee the safety of drinking water. The Latin American region is facing its worst crisis in more than 100 years, or it will encounter the second "decade of disappearance."
In recent years, some Latin American countries have gradually realized the importance of infrastructure and interconnection. The Belt and Road Initiative fits the development priorities of the region and provides a useful reference for its development direction. Editor/Tian Zengpeng
