The Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) awarded Gammon Construction and Engineering's joint venture-Singapore Bach Solitance Company a civil contract for the design and construction of Angmokio in the first phase of the Cross Island Line (CRL1) Station and tunnel.

S$644 million (US$47178 million) is the value of the contract, which also includes the addition and modification of the existing Angmokio station along the North-South Line (NSL). After completion, Angmokio Station will become the intersection between CRL and NSL. The construction of CRL1 Angmokio station is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2021, and passenger services are expected to be opened in 2030.

Ang Mo Point Station is a subway station adjacent to the busy intersection of Ang Mo Kio Avenue No. 3 and Ang Mo Point Avenue No. 8. As the LTA and the contractor will be located near the NSL viaduct and surrounding structures, the progress of the project will be closely monitored and all works will be carried out safely with minimal impact on the existing structure. The deep excavation works at Ang Mo Kio station will be carried out under challenging ground conditions as the rocks are usually weak and located at the transition point between the old alluvial line and the Bukit Timah granite formation. This requires the use of specially designed machinery to safely carry out excavation work.

After completion, the station will be directly connected to different residential areas, AMK Hub, Ang Mo Kio Integrated Transportation Hub and Ang Mo Kio Town Garden East. Two of the new entrances will be connected to the station via underground passages. In order to ensure smooth road traffic, these underground passages will be constructed using the "pipe roof and mining" method. The box structure made of pipes will support the ground while mining works are carried out under the road. Compared with more traditional surface excavation methods, this method minimizes interference with surrounding roads, buildings, and underground services.

In 2021, LTA signed a $266.2 million contract for the construction of a 3.2-kilometer tunnel between the Aviation Park Station and Luoyang Station, and signed a $735.8 million contract for the CRL 1 Pasir Ris Interchange Station.

The first phase of the Cross-Island Line (CRL1) of the 8th MRT Line will provide transportation services on a 29-kilometer line, with 12 stations from Aviation Park to Guangmingshan. CRL will own almost half of the stations as meeting points with other railway lines. It will serve the current and future development of the eastern, northeastern and western corridors. Editor/XuNing
